Little Spiderhunter

The Little Spiderhunter, Arachnothera longirostra, is a specialized member of the sunbird family native to the tropical forests of South and Southeast Asia. Evolutionarily distinct due to its highly curved bill, the species was formally described by the English ornithologist John Latham in 1790. Its design is a marvel of ecological adaptation, with a pointed wing shape for rapid, direct flight and a notched tail, features that allow it to maneuver efficiently through dense canopy vegetation while foraging for the spiders and nectar that sustain it.
