Littoral Rock-Thrush

The Littoral Rock-Thrush, Monticola imerina, is an avian species endemic to the spiny forests of southwestern Madagascar. It was historically considered a subspecies of the forest rock-thrush, but it has since been recognized as a distinct species based on its unique morphology and restricted geographic distribution. Its existence is tied to the fragile, dry coastal ecosystems that characterize the Toliara region, which have long been a focal point for ornithological surveys documenting the island's high rates of endemism.
