Luzon Striped-Babbler

The Luzon Striped-Babbler, or Zosterornis striatus, is a passerine bird endemic to the Philippines, specifically restricted to the montane forests of northern Luzon. It was formally described by the ornithologist Manuel L. Manuel in the mid-20th century, emerging from an era of intensive biodiversity surveys conducted within the archipelago's dense cloud forests. The bird reflects the high degree of endemism found in the Luzon tropical pine forests, representing a lineage that has evolved in relative isolation across the rugged cordilleras of the island.

The species is characterized by its distinct, subtle plumage, featuring a brown-streaked appearance that provides effective camouflage amidst the undergrowth of its high-altitude habitat. Its physical anatomy, notably the rounded wings and notched tail, is highly specialized for short-distance, maneuverable flight within the tangled montane vegetation.
