Malaysian Blue-banded Kingfisher

The Malaysian Blue-banded Kingfisher, scientifically classified as Alcedo peninsulae, was historically considered a subspecies of the blue-banded kingfisher before taxonomic revisions identified it as a distinct species. Primarily inhabiting the dense, primary rainforests of the Malay Peninsula, Borneo, and Sumatra, this elusive bird evolved to thrive in the shadowed, humid environments near small, fast-flowing forest streams where it hunts for aquatic prey.
