McGregor's Cuckooshrike

McGregor's Cuckooshrike (Malindangia mcgregori) is a passerine bird endemic to the island of Mindanao in the Philippines. It was first described by the ornithologist Edgar Alexander Mearns in 1907, who named the species in honor of the Philippine ornithologist Richard Crittenden McGregor. The bird is notable for its classification within the family Campephagidae, representing a distinct lineage that thrives in the primary montane forests of the Malindang mountain range.

The species is characterized by a robust physical structure, specifically defined by its broad wing shape and rounded tail, which are adaptations suited to its specific forest canopy environment. Evolutionarily, these features assist the bird in maneuverability while foraging for insects and fruits among dense foliage. As a member of the monotypic genus Malindangia, the bird is a subject of significant interest for its evolutionary isolation and remains a focal point for conservation efforts concerning the high-altitude biodiversity of Mindanao.
