Montane Forest Screech-Owl

The Montane Forest Screech-Owl, scientifically recognized as Megascops hoyi, is a small strigiform native to the humid montane forests of the central Andes, specifically spanning regions within Bolivia and Argentina. It was formally described in the late 20th century, emerging from the efforts of ornithologists to better document the high-altitude biodiversity of the Yungas ecoregion. The species is defined by its compact, rounded wing and tail morphology, physical adaptations that allow for agile flight and precise maneuvering within the dense, cluttered canopy of cloud forest environments.

The design of this avian form is a product of evolutionary adaptation to high-elevation montane niches, where the species utilizes its rounded wing shape for short-burst, high-precision flight rather than long-distance migration.
