Montezuma Quail

The Montezuma Quail, Cyrtonyx montezumae, is a distinctive New World quail species native to the highlands of central and northern Mexico and the southwestern United States. Its evolution is characterized by a specific adaptation to high-altitude grasslands and oak-juniper woodlands, where its rounded wings and tail facilitate quick, short-burst flight maneuvers necessary for navigating dense forest floors.
