Muscovy Duck

The Muscovy duck, scientifically known as Cairina moschata, is a species native to the tropical regions of Mexico, Central, and South America. Unlike most domestic ducks, which descend from the mallard, the Muscovy is a distinct species with a history of domestication by indigenous peoples long before the arrival of Europeans in the Americas. They were prized for their hardy nature and adaptability to various climates, eventually gaining a global presence as a sustainable source of food and utility in agricultural settings.
