Olrog's Gull

Olrog's gull was formally described in 1983 by the ornithologist Claës Christian Olrog, for whom the species is named. Found primarily along the Atlantic coast of Argentina, this gull is recognized for its highly specific habitat requirements, relying almost exclusively on the rocky islands of the Buenos Aires province and nearby coastal zones to breed. It emerged as a distinct taxonomic interest due to its unique dark hood and specific feeding behaviors that differentiate it from the more widespread Kelp gull.

The physical design of the species is characterized by its distinctively pointed wings and a square-shaped tail, anatomical features that facilitate its agile flight patterns across coastal estuaries. These structural traits have made it a focal point for conservation biology, as the species is considered near-threatened.
