Oriental Darter

The Oriental Darter, scientifically classified as Anhinga melanogaster, is a member of the Anhingidae family, a group of water birds often referred to as snakebirds due to their distinctive habit of swimming with only their long, slender necks visible above the water. Historically, these birds have been significant in the cultural and ecological landscapes of South and Southeast Asia, where they are native to inland wetlands. Their specialized anatomy, characterized by a pointed tail and narrow wings, reflects an evolutionary adaptation for efficient underwater pursuit of fish rather than long-distance aerial flight.
