Owston's Tit

Owston's tit, or the Izu tit, was historically classified as a subspecies of the varied tit but is now recognized as a distinct species endemic to the Izu Islands of Japan. It was named in honor of Alan Owston, a British naturalist and merchant based in Yokohama who amassed significant collections of East Asian fauna during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The species was formally described and documented as part of the broader avian exploration of the Japanese archipelago during this period of intense taxonomic activity.
