Pacific Antwren

The Pacific Antwren, Myrmotherula pacifica, is a small passerine bird native to the humid forests of the Chocó region, spanning from eastern Panama through western Colombia to northwestern Ecuador. First described by the American ornithologist Hellmayr in 1911, it belongs to the Thamnophilidae family, a group of birds collectively known as antbirds that have evolved to occupy dense understory habitats. Unlike many migratory species, this bird is sedentary, maintaining a niche as a specialized insectivore that gleans prey from the foliage of the rainforest canopy.

The physical morphology of the Pacific Antwren is a testament to its evolutionary adaptation to dense, tangled vegetation.
