Painted Firetail

The Painted Firetail, or Emblema pictum, is a native Australian estrildid finch found primarily in the arid regions of the country's interior. Unlike many other finches that flock in large numbers, this species is noted for its elusive nature and preference for rocky, spinifex-covered terrain. Its scientific classification is rooted in the 1842 description by ornithologist John Gould, who famously documented Australia's unique avian diversity during his extensive travels and subsequent illustrated folios, capturing the species' striking red plumage against the backdrop of the outback.
