Pied Puffbird

The Pied Puffbird, scientifically classified as Notharchus tectus, is a member of the Bucconidae family native to the tropical forests of Central and South America. Historically, this species was formally described by French polymath Georges-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon, in the 18th century. It occupies a distinct ecological niche in the canopy, where its physical characteristics, including its broad, rounded wing shape and rounded tail, are perfectly adapted for short, darting flights between perches while foraging for insects.
