Pink-rumped Rosefinch

The Pink-rumped Rosefinch (Carpodacus waltoni) is a high-altitude passerine primarily documented in the mountainous regions of the Himalayas and the Tibetan Plateau. It was first described by ornithologist Richard Bowdler Sharpe in the early 20th century, named in honor of Captain Herbert James Walton, a British surgeon and naturalist who collected specimens during the 1903-1904 British expedition to Tibet. The species occupies a niche in high, rugged terrain where its physical adaptations—specifically its broad, powerful wing shape—allow for maneuvering through thin mountain air and turbulent alpine winds.
