Pleske's Grasshopper Warbler

Pleske’s Grasshopper Warbler was first described by the Russian ornithologist Taczanowski in 1890, named in honor of his colleague Fedor Pleske. This migratory passerine is primarily native to the coastal regions of East Asia, breeding on small islands off the coasts of Japan, Korea, and Russia before wintering in southern China and Southeast Asia. Its taxonomy reflects the careful 19th-century efforts of European naturalists to categorize the diverse avian life discovered during expeditions into the Far East.

The bird is physically defined by its specialized morphology, featuring narrow wings and a distinctively pointed tail, adaptations suited for its life within dense coastal shrubbery and tall grasses.
