Plumbeous-backed Thrush

The Plumbeous-backed Thrush, scientifically classified as Turdus reevei, is a passerine bird belonging to the family Turdidae. Native to the arid shrublands and dry forests of southwestern Ecuador and northwestern Peru, this species occupies a specific ecological niche in the Tumbesian region. It is recognized for its understated plumage, which serves as an effective camouflage within its scrub-covered habitat, reflecting an evolutionary adaptation to the seasonally dry environment of the Pacific slope.

The species was first formally described by George Robert Gray in 1844, named in honor of the naturalist Lovell Augustus Reeve. The bird is characterized by its rounded wing and tail shapes, features that facilitate its characteristic flight pattern within dense, low-lying vegetation.
