Purple-chested Hummingbird

The purple-chested hummingbird, scientifically classified as Polyerata rosenbergi, is a distinctive member of the Trochilidae family endemic to the humid forest regions of the Chocó in Colombia and northwestern Ecuador. It was first described by the ornithologist Walter Rothschild in 1895, named in honor of the collector W.F.H. Rosenberg, who provided specimens from the remote tropical lowlands. The species has historically been valued by naturalists for its striking, iridescent plumage and specialized adaptation to the dense canopy environments of the Pacific coast.
