Regent Whistler

The Regent Whistler, Pachycephala schlegelii, is a member of the whistler family found primarily in the montane forests of New Guinea. It was formally described by the German zoologist Hermann Schlegel in 1871. As a montane specialist, its evolution has been shaped by the high-altitude, mossy environments of the island's central cordillera, where it occupies a niche as an insectivorous bird often noted for its striking, high-contrast plumage.
