Reunion White-eye

The Reunion White-eye, or Zosterops olivaceus, is an endemic passerine bird native to the forests of Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean. Its taxonomy reflects the evolutionary isolation common to Mascarene fauna, placing it within the Zosteropidae family, which is noted for the distinctive white ring of feathers around the eyes. Evolutionarily, these birds diverged from mainland African ancestors, adapting to the volcanic topography and dense, humid vegetation of the island through specialized foraging behaviors.
