Rufous-breasted Antthrush

The Rufous-breasted Antthrush, scientifically classified as Formicarius rufipectus, is a terrestrial suboscine passerine native to the humid montane forests of the Neotropics, ranging primarily from Costa Rica through the Andes to Peru. It was formally described by the ornithologist Osbert Salvin in 1866, reflecting the era's intensive scientific exploration of Central and South American biodiversity. As an inhabitant of dense, shadowed undergrowth, it evolved specialized physical characteristics, including its signature rounded wings and tail, which allow for maneuverability in cluttered forest floors rather than long-distance flight.
