Such's Antthrush

Such's Antthrush, scientifically classified as Chamaeza meruloides, is a member of the Formicariidae family endemic to the Atlantic Forest of southeastern Brazil. First described by the German naturalist Johann Friedrich von Eschscholtz in the 19th century, the species was named in honor of the British entomologist and collector George Such. It belongs to a genus of ground-dwelling birds that historically fascinated naturalists for their cryptic, terrestrial lifestyle in dense undergrowth, making them notoriously difficult to observe in their native habitat.

The physical characteristics of Such's Antthrush, specifically its rounded wings and rounded tail, are evolutionary adaptations suited for its life in the forest floor canopy. These features minimize drag during short, low-altitude flights through dense vegetation.
