Rufous-sided Gerygone

The Rufous-sided Gerygone, taxonomically classified as Gerygone dorsalis, is a small passerine bird native to the Tanimbar Islands and parts of the Moluccas in Indonesia. It belongs to the Acanthizidae family, a group of birds primarily distributed throughout Australasia. The species is characterized by its specific morphology, including a distinctively rounded wing shape and a notched tail, which facilitate its movement through dense tropical undergrowth and forest canopies.

The scientific description of this species emerged from the broader 19th and early 20th-century ornithological expeditions that sought to document the biodiversity of the Indo-Pacific archipelago.
