Russet-capped Tesia

The Russet-capped Tesia, scientifically classified as Tesia everetti, is a small, elusive passerine bird endemic to the mountain forests of the Lesser Sunda Islands in Indonesia. First formally described by the ornithologist Ernst Hartert in 1897, the species is named in honor of the British collector Alfred Hart Everett, who was instrumental in documenting the biodiversity of the Malay Archipelago during the late nineteenth century.

The bird’s distinctive physical characteristics—such as its rounded wings and slightly notched tail—are evolutionary adaptations suited to its preference for dense, mossy undergrowth and humid forest floors. As a member of the Cettiidae family, it is known for its shy behavior, which historically made it a challenging subject for early field naturalists, though its vocalizations have remained a subject of interest for ornithologists documenting the distinct avian lineages of the Wallacea region.
