Rusty-cheeked Hornbill

The Rusty-cheeked Hornbill, scientifically identified as Anorrhinus tickelli, is a species native to the forests of Southeast Asia, ranging from Myanmar to Thailand. Its taxonomy was established in the 19th century, named in honor of the British soldier and naturalist Samuel Richard Tickell, whose extensive observations in Burma contributed significantly to the Western documentation of regional avian life. Unlike many of its larger, more solitary relatives, this species has evolved a sophisticated cooperative breeding structure, often living in small, socially complex family groups that forage together under the dense canopy.
