Sakhalin Grasshopper Warbler

The Sakhalin Grasshopper Warbler, known scientifically as Helopsaltes amnicola, was historically categorized within the Locustella genus before taxonomic revisions placed it in the Helopsaltes group. It breeds primarily in the Sakhalin region, the Kuril Islands, and parts of northern Japan, characterized by its secretive nature and preference for dense, brushy habitats. Its survival relies on these specific wetland and meadow ecosystems, which have become focal points for ornithological study regarding the impact of environmental changes on migratory songbirds.
