Sangihe Hanging-Parrot

The Sangihe hanging-parrot, Loriculus catamene, is a small, specialized avian species endemic to the Sangihe Islands of Indonesia. It was first formally described by scientists in the late 19th century, emerging from the era of colonial-era biological surveys of the Wallacea region. As a member of the hanging-parrot genus, it evolved to occupy specific niches within the dense tropical forest canopy, characterized by its distinct rounded wings and tail, which assist in its agile, low-altitude flight patterns.
