Shelley's Sunbird

Shelley's Sunbird, or Cinnyris shelleyi, was formally described by the ornithologist George Ernest Shelley in 1880. It represents a specialized member of the Nectariniidae family, native to the miombo woodlands of south-central Africa. Like many sunbirds identified during the late 19th-century era of biological exploration, its classification was driven by the necessity of documenting avian biodiversity across the African continent during the height of European colonial natural history expeditions.
