Southern Double-collared Sunbird

The Southern Double-collared Sunbird, scientifically classified as Cinnyris chalybeus, is a nectarivorous passerine endemic to southern Africa. Evolutionarily adapted for the fynbos biome, the species developed its distinct pointed wings for efficient, high-maneuverability flight between tubular flowers. The bird plays a crucial role in the ecosystem as a primary pollinator for plants such as Erica and Protea, reflecting a long-standing ecological co-evolution between the sunbird and its native flora.
