Spectacled Warbler

The Spectacled Warbler, or Curruca conspicillata, is a small passerine bird primarily native to the Mediterranean basin and parts of North Africa. Classified historically within the Sylviidae family, it occupies scrubland habitats where its distinct plumage—notably the gray head and white throat contrasting with a reddish-brown mantle—serves as a primary identifier for ornithologists. Its rounded wing shape and notched tail are evolutionary adaptations suited for short, darting flights within dense shrubbery, reflecting a life history defined by agility in Mediterranean maquis and garrigue ecosystems.

First formally described by Coenraad Jacob Temminck in 1820, the species was categorized during an era of intense European expansion in natural history documentation. The bird's common name refers to the white ring around its eye, which creates the appearance of spectacles.
