Stolid Flycatcher

The Stolid Flycatcher, Myiarchus stolidus, is a species of bird belonging to the tyrant flycatcher family, primarily native to Jamaica and Hispaniola. It was first formally described by Philip Sclater in 1861, emerging from the mid-19th-century surge in Caribbean ornithological exploration. The species evolved within the dense, wooded habitats of these islands, developing its characteristic broad wing shape and notched tail as functional adaptations for maneuvering through complex foliage to catch insects in flight.

The design of the species—its cryptic, olive-brown plumage and distinct vocalizations—is a product of evolutionary pressure rather than human artifice.
