Streak-backed Antshrike

The Streak-backed Antshrike, Thamnophilus insignis, is a passerine bird endemic to the tepui highlands of the Guiana Shield in South America. Identified by its distinctively rounded wings and notched tail, the species is found primarily in the humid forests and shrublands of southern Venezuela, northern Brazil, and western Guyana. It exists as part of the specialized avifauna that evolved in isolation atop the ancient, rugged sandstone plateaus known as tepuis, which have long served as biological laboratories for evolutionary study.

The species was formally described and classified within the Thamnophilidae family, a group commonly referred to as typical antbirds.
