Tapajos Fire-eye

The Tapajos Fire-eye, scientifically known as Pyriglena similis, is a species of insectivorous bird within the Thamnophilidae family, primarily native to the understory of humid forests in the Brazilian Amazon. It was historically considered a subspecies or a population of the White-backed Fire-eye, but modern taxonomic study, largely informed by vocalization analysis and genetic divergence, led to its recognition as a distinct species. The bird is named for its geographic distribution near the Tapajós River basin.

The bird is characterized by its distinct physical features, including rounded wings that facilitate short-distance flight through dense foliage and a characteristically notched tail.
