Vanuatu Whistler

The Vanuatu Whistler, Pachycephala chlorura, is a passerine bird endemic to the archipelago of Vanuatu. Scientifically classified within the Pachycephalidae family, its evolutionary history is linked to the complex biogeography of Melanesia, where isolated island populations have diverged into distinct forms. It was historically treated as a subspecies of the golden whistler complex, but modern taxonomic consensus recognizes it as a distinct species based on its unique vocalizations and specific plumage characteristics that reflect adaptations to the dense, humid forest environments of the region.

The design of the species—characterized by its rounded wings and notched tail—is a functional evolutionary response to the necessity of maneuvering through thick tropical vegetation.
