Variable Goshawk

The Variable Goshawk, Tachyspiza hiogaster, is a medium-sized bird of prey native to the Wallacea region and the Moluccas. Its complex history is defined by its taxonomy, which has long been a subject of ornithological debate due to the species' remarkable color polymorphism, ranging from uniform slate-gray to various barred and rufous forms. Historically classified within the Accipiter genus, its reclassification to Tachyspiza reflects ongoing efforts to better map the evolutionary lineage of these raptors within their dense, tropical habitats.
