White-tailed Ant-Thrush

The White-tailed Ant-Thrush, Neocossyphus poensis, is a passerine bird belonging to the family Muscicapidae. It was formally described by the English ornithologist Hugh Edwin Strickland in 1844. As a species native to the dense, humid lowland forests of West and Central Africa, it occupies a specific niche as a terrestrial insectivore that often trails columns of army ants to consume flushed invertebrates, a behavior that characterizes its taxonomic grouping.

The physical design of the species is defined by its evolutionary adaptation to dark, shaded forest floors.
