Yellow-headed Caracara

The Yellow-headed Caracara, Daptrius chimachima, is a species of bird of prey in the family Falconidae, native to the tropical ecosystems of South America. It is typically found in open habitats, including savannas, forest edges, and agricultural pastures, where it exhibits a distinct, opportunistic foraging behavior. The species has historically been associated with cattle ranching, as it frequently perches on livestock to glean ticks and other parasites, a symbiotic relationship that has facilitated its expansion into human-altered landscapes.
