Yellow-lored Bristlebill

The Yellow-lored Bristlebill, Bleda notatus, is a passerine bird belonging to the family Pycnonotidae, or bulbuls. Native to the lowland forests of Central and West Africa, the species is distinguished by its olive-green plumage and distinctive yellow lore patch. It was first formally described by the American ornithologist John Cassin in 1856, reflecting the era’s intense scientific cataloging of African avian biodiversity as European and American researchers sought to document tropical species in their native habitats.

The species is noted for its structural characteristics, specifically its rounded wings and rounded tail, which are adaptations for maneuvering through dense forest undergrowth.
