Connect Four

Connect Four was released by the Milton Bradley Company in 1974, emerging during a period when the company was seeking to expand its catalog of strategy-based tabletop games. The game is based on the mathematical concept of a connection game, a class of strategy games where players attempt to create a line of their own pieces on a grid before their opponent does. Its design, characterized by the iconic vertical plastic grid, was intended to be accessible to children while offering enough tactical depth to keep adults engaged.

The game was designed by Howard Wexler, who presented the concept to Milton Bradley after refining the mechanics of dropping checkers into a slotted frame. Upon its release, it was marketed with a memorable television advertising campaign that emphasized the simplicity of the slogan: 'Pretty sneaky, sis.' The game was well-received as a staple of family game nights and has remained in continuous production for decades, solidified by its induction into the National Toy Hall of Fame in 2004.
