Guess Who?

Guess Who? was created by Israeli toy designer Theo Coster and his wife, Ora, and first published in 1979 by Milton Bradley. The game emerged from the couple’s design firm, Theora Design, which focused on creating accessible, engaging tabletop experiences for families. The concept was straightforward: a deductive elimination game where players use yes-or-no questions to identify a secret character from a selection of twenty-four illustrated faces.

The game is defined by its iconic plastic boards featuring flip-up windows, a design choice that provided a tactile satisfaction and allowed for efficient play. While the original 1979 edition featured a hand-drawn, diverse set of caricatures, the art style evolved over subsequent decades to reflect broader design trends. Despite these aesthetic shifts, the core mechanics remained a staple of children’s gaming, praised for teaching logical thinking and categorization without the need for complex reading skills.
