Where it came from
Le Château Lafortune was published by Parker Brothers as the French-Canadian localized edition of the iconic board game Monopoly. It emerged during a period when the company sought to expand the reach of the game into diverse linguistic markets, adapting the familiar real estate mechanics to better resonate with the cultural identity of Quebec players.
The board design replaces the traditional Atlantic City street names with iconic landmarks and thoroughfares of Montreal. By grounding the gameplay in the recognizable geography of a major Canadian city, Parker Brothers successfully increased the accessibility and appeal of the game, cementing its place as a staple in French-speaking households across the region for decades.
