Objective Moscow was released in 1972 by Simulations Publications, Inc. (SPI) as a wargame focused on the 1941 German invasion of the Soviet Union. As part of the company's early catalog, it served as a foundational example of the hex-and-counter wargaming genre, which aimed to simulate historical military operations through precise movement and combat resolution rules. The game was designed to emphasize the logistical and geographic challenges faced by the Wehrmacht during Operation Typhoon, forcing players to manage supply lines and weather conditions while racing against the onset of the Russian winter.
