Okey is a tile-based strategy game rooted in the Rummy family, which gained immense popularity across Turkey and the broader Ottoman cultural sphere. It emerged as a localized adaptation of the earlier game Okey Yüzbir and its precursors, utilizing a set of 106 tiles numbered 1 through 13 in four different colors, along with two special 'false joker' tiles. The game became a foundational element of the Turkish coffeehouse culture, serving as a social bridge that emphasized communal play and quick, tactical decision-making over long durations.

The physical design of the traditional Okey set is characterized by its distinct racks, known as 'istaka,' which are typically crafted from wood or high-quality plastic. These racks allow players to organize their tiles in a cascading horizontal display while keeping their hand hidden from opponents. The aesthetic of the tiles themselves, often featuring engraved or molded numbers with bold, clear typography, was designed for high readability in dimly lit social spaces.
