Where it came from
Ticket to Ride: First Journey was released by Days of Wonder in 2016 as an introductory iteration of their flagship railway-themed board game franchise. Designed to make the mechanics of Alan R. Moon’s original 2004 classic more accessible to a younger audience, this version simplifies the rules by shortening the board, reducing the number of train cars required, and focusing on basic route-building goals.
The visual identity of the game was crafted to be vibrant and inviting, utilizing simplified, colorful illustrations that appeal to families. By streamlining the gameplay while maintaining the strategic essence of the original, it was designed to serve as a gateway game that bridges the gap between casual play and the more complex board game hobby. It has been widely praised for its ability to foster social interaction among children and adults alike, remaining a staple in educational and domestic settings.
