100 All-Time Favorite Movies of the 20th Century

Published by TASCHEN in 2019, this volume was conceived as a comprehensive tribute to the evolution of cinema throughout the 1900s. Edited by Jürgen Müller, a professor of art history known for his extensive work on film studies, the book serves as a curated retrospective designed to capture the technical and cultural shifts that defined the medium. It fits into the publisher's established tradition of high-quality, oversized art books that aim to marry accessible film criticism with significant archival photography.

The design of the book emphasizes a visual-first approach, pairing analytical essays with high-resolution stills, original posters, and behind-the-scenes imagery. Müller’s editorial direction focuses on balancing commercially successful blockbusters with influential auteur cinema to create a balanced survey of the century's output. The collection is highly regarded for its physical production quality and its utility as a reference text for cinephiles, solidifying its place as a staple in contemporary film literature.
