2 Peter-Jude

Published in 1983 as part of the Word Biblical Commentary series, this volume represents a landmark academic engagement with the New Testament epistles of 2 Peter and Jude. Richard Bauckham, a preeminent scholar of early Christianity, sought to provide a rigorous, verse-by-verse analysis that addressed the complex historical, linguistic, and theological challenges posed by these texts, particularly the issues of authorship and their relationship to pseudepigraphal literature.

The design of the volume reflects the scholarly ambitions of the Word Biblical Commentary series, which was established to provide a sophisticated resource for both clergy and researchers. Bauckham’s contribution is widely regarded as one of the most significant works in the series; it is noted for its meticulous depth and its thorough synthesis of disparate scholarly traditions. It has remained a standard reference work in theological libraries for decades due to the author's ability to navigate the intersection of historical criticism and theological reflection.
