200e anniversaire de la découverte du Mississipi [sic] par Jolliet et le p. Marquette

This work was published in 1873 by L.H. Huot to commemorate the bicentenary of the 1673 expedition led by Louis Jolliet and Father Jacques Marquette. It serves as a historical record of their journey down the Mississippi River, an exploration that significantly expanded European cartographic and geographic knowledge of North America during the French colonial period.

The volume captures the mid-19th-century interest in Canadian national history and the celebration of foundational figures in French-Canadian heritage. As a commemorative text, it reflects the scholarly efforts of the era to formalize the narratives of early explorers, framing their expedition not just as a survival journey, but as a defining moment in the settlement and religious mission of the interior continent.
