Alex Haley & Malcolm X's the Autobiography of Malcolm X

Published in 1999 by Chelsea House Publications, this volume is part of the 'Bloom's Modern Critical Interpretations' series. Edited and introduced by the renowned literary critic Harold Bloom, the work was designed to provide students and scholars with a curated collection of scholarly essays analyzing the literary and historical significance of the landmark 1965 autobiography co-authored by Malcolm X and Alex Haley.

The series served as a cornerstone for academic libraries during the late 1990s, aiming to frame essential 20th-century texts through the lens of canonical literary criticism. Harold Bloom sought to elevate the autobiography beyond its initial reception as a political polemic, emphasizing its structural depth and place in the American autobiographical tradition. It remains a widely referenced resource for those examining how the collaborative process between Haley and Malcolm X shaped the narrative voice of the civil rights era.
