Bruce Coville's Book of Ghosts

Bruce Coville's Book of Ghosts was first published in 1994 as part of a popular series of supernatural anthologies curated by the author. During the 1990s, Coville established himself as a prominent figure in middle-grade fantasy and horror literature, specifically aiming to provide young readers with accessible, spooky stories that balanced chills with literary quality. The collection was designed to serve as an introduction to classic and contemporary ghost fiction, featuring a mix of original work and carefully selected reprints meant to engage a younger demographic's fascination with the macabre.

The physical edition published by Demco Media is a reinforced library binding, reflecting the book's primary intended environment in schools and local libraries. The cover art and interior design were crafted to appeal to the visual sensibilities of the era's young adult readers, focusing on atmospheric imagery that suggested mystery without being overly graphic. The collection received positive attention from educators and librarians for its ability to foster independent reading habits, becoming a staple in scholastic book fairs and library collections throughout the mid-to-late nineties.
