Where it came from
Published in 2005 by the Facultad de Arquitectura at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, this work serves as an academic monograph dedicated to the professional contributions of Carlos Contreras Pagés. Contreras was a seminal figure in Mexican urban planning during the early to mid-20th century, notably serving as the chief architect of the Comisión Nacional de Planificación and playing a pivotal role in the modernization of Mexico City through the implementation of zoning regulations and large-scale urban infrastructure projects.
The book functions as a retrospective of his architectural philosophy and his efforts to systematize urban growth in a rapidly expanding capital. By compiling his urbanistic strategies, the Facultad de Arquitectura aimed to preserve the legacy of a planner who bridged the gap between traditional colonial layouts and the functionalist demands of modern urban life. The volume is recognized primarily within architectural and historical circles as a vital primary source for understanding the transformation of the Mexican urban landscape.
